![]() ![]() Recently had to do this with my laptop running Windows 8 and it was a breeze. At the end of the operation, which can take just seconds, the 'dummy' partition type number is again replaced by the correct one, so the operating system can recognize it as valid partition. I had hoped there was a Win 7 version of the media creation tool, but have been unable to find one. ![]() Note that standard practice for partitioning software is to replace temporary the partition type number in the partition table by a number that is normally not even recognized by the normal operating systems as valid partition. In such case this system has to be present on the hard disk before any other operating system will start. So such partitioning task need to be done under some temporary operating system, then this system to be unloaded and the real system (e.g windows) started. If it should not use external boot media, but the internal boot media e.g the local hard disk, then the partitioning has to take place before the actual operating system is loaded. So if such tool is portable, it definitely must use boot media. So why to have portable partitioning software which can only make changes to non system partition? For that you have fine tool in every windows. So how ever you twist it, if you can not install such subsystem and boot to it, you can not partition. Since there is no way one can do all manipulations without running special operating system instance before the actual operating system is run. ![]()
